Controls System Specialist Apprentice

Job Purpose:

The purpose of the Controls System Specialist Apprentice is to learn the building automation systems business of Commercial Controls Group, Incorporated (“Company”) by receiving on the job supervised training by experienced mentors. This position will be trained on and exposed to all aspects of the business.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Controls System Specialist Apprentice will rotate through the Company’s Technical Service, Project Management, and Sales departments to learn the functions and responsibilities of each and acquire the skillset and knowledge of each.  The job duties and responsibilities will change depending on which department he/she is rotating through.  Such duties and responsibilities shall include the following: 

In General:

  • Performing administrative tasks as needed
  • Attend meetings and workshops
  • Adhering to the Company’s safety standards and policies 
  • Work Overtime as assigned
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Work cooperatively with others
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular, punctual and reliable attendance and availability

Service Rotation:  Learn, develop and demonstrate the technical control skills by assisting in the performance of the following tasks:

  • Install, assess, program, commission, repair, maintain, and overhaul control components
  • Configure and set-up PC workstations, user interfaces, data servers, IP Networking devices, protocols, routers, switches, mass storage devices and hubs. 
  • Interface with customers to provide quality service and feedback on problem evaluation and resolution
  • Final inspection and testing

Project Management Rotation: Learn, develop and demonstrate project management skills by assisting in the performance of the following tasks:

  • Access, review and generate as applicable Project Documents 
  • Place Orders for Materials

Sales Rotation:  Learn, develop and demonstrate sales skills by assisting in the performance of the following tasks:

  • Create Estimates, Quotes and other contract documents
  • Understand Project Takeoff from Plans
  • Use of Bidtracer

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; lay on the floor; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. The employee may work in environments as cold as 20 degrees or as hot as 105 degrees. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • Strong Aptitude for technology and mechanical systems 
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Good time management, critical and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Possess a satisfactory driving record as determined by company driver policies

Travel Requirement:

  • Up to 85% in territory travel to customers, prospective customers and site visits. Possibly (as required) some overnight stay, travel to industry related conferences and training requiring some extended stay. Expectation is to spend one day per week in the office coordinating with admin/project managers and equipment sales personnel but majority of time in the field
